Bruce Thomson is a veterinarian now in semi-retirement after
some 22 years experience in mixed practice...
His daily rounds included a range of clinical
disciplines that a medical doctor could only dream about:-
- "Midnight" Caesarean sections of cows and cats
- Paediatrics
- Geriatric management of pets
- Radiography
- In depth blood testing and clinical pathology - often the preserve of specialists in the human health field.
- Epidemiological analysis of large herd and flock disease outbreaks.
- All aspects of diet and nutrition.
He is now putting that experience to use in developing a "Self Health Management" approach
to human health issues.
When it comes to independent thinking capable of covering the
whole human health field,
a researcher with veterinary experience has the unique advantages of a generalist:-
We certainly need medical specialists but I think you will agree that
the generalist approach does have its merits when it comes to developing information resources for those who
are keen to "Self Health Manage"!
Back to School:-
AS at December 2007, has achieved competency in:-
- General Fitness Trainer
- Pilates Instructer (Polestar Pilates, Classical Pilates)
- Bowen Therapy
- Foot Joint Mobilization
Bruce has the following special interests:-
- Nutritional solutions to the western world's health epidemics.
- Massage therapy including strategies for trigger point de-activation and Bowen therapy.
- Exercise Prescription.
- "Posture-Movement Re-education".
- Foot Joint Mobilization
Family Man...
Bruce is a family man, giving help and support to wife and partner of 8 years
(as at December 2004), Glynis. With twin babies in the family, you can appreciate
that he must have developed at least some strategies of time and self-health management
along the way. Glynis is a registered nurse, classical homoeopathist and accomplished
wellness councillor.
Fitness Orientated Life Style...
Bruce has a fitness orientated lifestyle. As a mountaineer in New Zealand's
unique Southern Alps, he has twice climbed New Zealand's tallest mountain
(Aorangi -Mt Cook), and has also partnered two climbing first routes. His
current fitness interests involve dry land training for cross-country skiing
with the occasional foray into that much loved snow, and maintaining the body
for the demands of work and life.

Personal Experience of Musculoskeletal Afflictions...
He has personally experienced many of the common musculo-skeletal afflictions of human-kind,
from shin splints and knee pain to shoulder and tennis elbow problems.
Says Bruce, "Pain is a great motivator for finding curative strategies!" However,
it's not just pain that motivates Bruce. He has a genuine desire to help
people to find easier answers to life's problems.

A Christadelphian...
Bruce comes from a family background of active Church of England Protestantism,
and currently worships God as a Christadelphian. He feels that Christadelphianism
brings a logical, fresh and extremely biblical approach to world view, ethics and daily living.
"Ski-walking"
The author's recommended low impact exercise:
When performed correctly, ski-walking aids correct body movement
and posture, and is less damaging than "power walking" or jogging! An "uphill component"
can be added by putting a pack on the back...
