My story...
Despite gym workouts, physiotherapy advice and chiropractic, I still had a bad back.
For 20 years I AVOIDED skipping or jumping on a mini-trampoline. Others could get away with that but not me.
Something wasn't right!
So why didn't gym workouts, physiotherapy advice and chiropractic work for my back?...
(show/hide...)
They didn't tell me what I NEEDED to know...
- I needed to know how to engage the lazy postural muscles of the "core and the floor", and
- I needed to know how to hold and move myself correctly to minimize the risk of damage to the
most delicate joints in the body - the two lowermost intervertebral discs and the sacro-iliac joints.
In desperation I went to the local library and started to read up the books on Pilates, Alexander
technique... you name it I read it.
Little by little, I became more aware of where the damage happens in the spine,
the power of the pelvic floor and other muscles to protect the spine, and the necessity to
regularly train good habits of muscle activation and movement patterning. I also learnt about the power of massage,
and gave up my job (as a mixed practice veterinarian in rural Southland New Zealand)...
(That's crazy Bruce! - why would you give up your highly paid job as a doctor of veterinary medicine?)
(show/hide...)
...so that I could devote my time to learning how to help and heal people by the teaching
of wise movement and the application of Bowen therapy and trigger point massage. I am
now a full time Pilates instructor and massage therapist.
How do you know you can trust me?
You don't! At least not yet.
(Come to think of it, I wouldn't trust me on just one single visit!).
So here is what I want to do for you...
(show/hide...)
Send you an email course composed of
- true life stories of bad backs,
- free samples of
"The Back Maintenance
Manual(1):
Pilates Exercises for
Low Back Pain",
- a primer on how to harness the amazing power of self massage to cure your back pain,
(in my opinion this single primer alone is worth more than a specialist back consultation, and it is
totally free!), AND
- a free self help questionnaire so that you can assess just how bad your back is!
My promise:
I will never sell or give away your email address, and I will honour your request to unsubscribe.
(I hate spam as much as you do).

If you are thinking about purchasing now there's just one small catch.
There is something that you must understand. It's very reasonable
but it may affect your decision.
You see this book is not for everyone...
(show/hide...)
- If you think that your doctor/surgeon/physio
has all the answers,
- If you think that someone is going to give you a quick fix,
- If you are not prepared to learn and do the work for yourself,
- If you think that simple exercises are way too hard,
- If you are not willing to keep an open mind and learn new things about
maintaining your back...
Then this offer is not for you!
The Posture-Movement Solution...
There has been enough needless back pain in this world. It's time for it to stop.
That is why I want to share with you the self help knowledge that saved my aching back.
I'm so passionate about sharing this self help approach that I am not only going to give away

Bruce,
by pure chance I came across your website. I have recently used the work on there
with a Patient of mine undergoing post operative work after spinal rebuild
(scoliosis) we have worked together on the areas concerned and the results
have been excellent. The exercise where both pictorially good but the academia
and description first class. Well done ! Keep up the good work.

Hi Bruce,
My name is Kevin Post and I work at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) Johnson Space Center in Houston Texas.. I am also a co-owner of Yoga Lola Studios,
a local yoga, healing, and learning center. The studio has been selected as a
participant of the NASA Johnson Space Center Safety and Health Day in two weeks. The
thrust of our studios' participation is the health of the spine, with a particular
focus on those individuals who are assigned to work in the NASA Mission Control
Center and the NASA Mission Evaluation Room. Both of these responsibilities involve
long hours sitting in front of computer consoles, monitoring spacecraft systems
and responding to mission objectives and emergencies.
As part of our presentation at the NASA safety and health day, Yoga Lola Studios
would like permission to use your material in the article you authored entitled:
"Consequences of Office Chair Sitting". May we have your permission to use it at
this important NASA event?
Thank you for your consideration,

Bob Anderson's book, Stretching, has been very helpful, as has Bruce Thomson's
EasyVigour web site. Whatever the source of the stretches I use, I've had to be very
gentle with them and have had to do them while listening intently to my body.

[Bruce, there is something about the way you explain the condition in this site
that actually reached me. It's very difficult to describe chocolate to someone
who has never tasted it. My knees are like chocolate, and my ankles are singing
like angels. I can only imagine what I'll feel like in six months if I continue
on this regimen. I promise to send you pics of me crossing the finish line of
my first marathon. Or with my trophy on Dancing With the Stars!]
I really can't thank you enough for your website. I can't believe it's only
been five weeks, and my gait has improved by 100 percent. My q angle has
improved by about 15 degrees!

Oh, you wonderful, wonderful man! After only a week of performing these silly exercises, I feel twenty years younger.
I always had a tendency to be a little knock-kneed, but when I was eighteen, I
ended a promising dance career with a patellofemeral fracture. We didn't really
have physical therapy back in the early '80s like we do today, so when I was
uncasted, I was extremely distressed to find that my leg wasn't "right." Well,
the most valuable advice I can give is never to ask a medical question of a surgeon.
Six surgeries and 18 months of immobilization later, I figured it was better to
walk like a crab-person than be addicted to morphine and purchase my surgeon
another Porsche! He actually had the audacity to slap me on the butt with my
file and say "Thanks for the Porsche. Come back and see me in five years for
your knee replacement."
However, I am stubborn and was determined to be active anyway. If you had seen
my knee two weeks ago, you'd have laughed at the thought. Needless to say, by
the time I was thirty, my pelvis was twisted, and the scoliosis had become so
bad my right shoulder dropped four inches below my left. I had weird tingling
sensations throughout my body. I tried cortisone injections, physical therapy,
chiropractic, rolfing, reflexology (my personal favorite), Pilates (for some reason,
I could never quite "get" the stance,) and yoga. After my first alignment yoga
class I felt so much better I thought it was magic. However, I could never seem
to duplicate the feeling in my daily life. I became a yoga teacher in order to
discover the secret. I still didn't get it, but I have to admit I slowly felt
better, although any running or dancing activity would send me into another
sprain/strain/pain cycle that would take months to overcome. I asked for yet
another referral for physical therapy and even became a physical therapy assistant,
attempting to discover the secret. I became a personal trainer and assisted others
with their valgus knees, only to be left with my own. This summer, high on my recent
divorce, I decided at 43 I would become a long distance runner, notwithstanding
the fact I had a crappy, misshapen body. I'm on crutches again, darn it all.
And then I remembered seeing your site a year or so ago and showing it to an
ortho, who laughed at it and told me I needed a hip replacement. I thought I'd
give it one more go. Your co-pay seemed right.

After 2+years of severe back and hamstring discomfort I finally determined the
cause was not my marathon training/running, but the office chair I sit on all day 5
days a week! I was surfing the net for info on what to do and came across Bruce's
website. My next marathon was about a month away and I needed help fast.
I started incorporating his stretches into my daily routine and even did some
at work. I still have a ways to go, but went from misery from about mile 2 of
any run to it not starting until mile 9 or 10. The only thing I changed was to
add Bruce's suggested stretches. I successfully completed marathon #38 and plan
on continuing my new routine to try and rid myself of my lower back and hamstring
pain without having to quit my job.

[warning - show at your peril - this testimonial is written by the author!]
(show/hide...)
Since that time, I have studied how to help myself, and that has evolved into a passion for helping others.
I am now able to run with confidence having at age 50 just run a 10 km race within 5 seconds of my life time
personal best
(if world masters records are anything to go by, I should be 3 or 4 minutes slower, so I
think that's pretty good proof that I know got something right).
In my capacity as a Bowen therapist and Pilates Instructor, I've helped a few people since that time,
and I hope to help a whole lot more.
Sincerely,
Bruce Thomson
